I would like to add, though, please hold off on submitting new characters for a few days, because we'll be posting a new character creation/application thread here soon before the RP kicks back up.

Took care of this... I locked the thread ;)

I just got very confused for a moment, seeing everything vanish! Will need to read through everything.

Will I have to reapply with my current pair of characters?

I just have a general question not sure if this is the right place to ask or not but figured one of you will move it if I am wrong.

Been watching the roleplay for a while and considered joining in, then now you are starting again thought I may finally join in, started creating my character and was reading the link about creating Mary sue/Gary Stu characters that Whispers provided and just wanted to check, basing the character too much on yourself seems to be a bad thing, is that right? Had thought it would be easier to write a character who is similiar to me but in general is it better to write someone who is different to you in personality and looks?

River! So glad to see you in the roleplay section! :D

I wouldn't say basing them off of yourself is a completely bad thing. I wouldn't make them exactly like you though. If you make their personality really similar to yours, you will already know how they would react to something. I think it'd be more fun having them react to something in a completely different way than you normally would. Does that make sense? Not saying you can't make them like you at all, maybe just change a few things around to make them a bit dissimilar to you. As for making them look like you, I don't see a problem with that. No one here really knows what you look like anyways (with the exception of Heart).

Maybe not the best advice, but that's my Point of view. :D

That makes sense thanks Avis, been thinking about it, and actually think it would be more fun to make them a bit different. :D

Not sure how far I am going to get with this, but will see what I come up with.

River! It'd be great of you to join us!

I'll just throw this out there: If anyone was looking into getting into the Roleplay, this would be a really good time to do so. We constructed this with the hope of making as accessible as possible to new users. I do realize it looks a bit intimidating, there are some hefty threads with a lot of information, but we're willing to answer any and all questions. If you were watching this thread at all, you'd have seen all the opinions and ideas that were shared, and we hope we've brought the best ones together to make the RP as interesting and interactive as possible for everyone.

That link isn't mine, but that is a bit confusing because it's part of the same spoiler tags :).

Imo basing a character on yourself is a good thing, since it allows you to draw from real experiences as you play them. The risk you run though, is that you end up making an idealised version of yourself. So not you as you are, but you as you would like to be, and then you're moving into Sue territory. Another risk is that you don't want anything 'bad' to happen to the character because the character is 'you'. But if you avoid those pitfalls, there is absolutely nothing wrong with modelling a character after yourself.
