I also couldn't remember exactly which questions I had answered. I know I answered Forest vs River with Forest!

I think JK is a genius and I love that she gave us a chance to have some idea of what it might be like to be sorted into a house in Hogwarts!

Wow. beautiful analysis! To test it out I checked if my answers match up to what you stated.

You rate the answers High (5), Moderate High (4), Moderate (3), Moderate Low (2) and Low (1).
So I'll just add value to sum them up later.

The house I got sorted into was Gryffindor, and the questions I had to answer were:

In a fire, in which order would you save a nearly perfected cure for dragon pox that the headmaster has been working on for years, student school records dating back 1000 years and Merlin’s book? (There's another variation on this question, I think)
Spoiler: show
My answer: -cure, book, records (Gryffindor-High, Ravenclaw-High, Hufflepuff-Low-Moderate, Slytherin-Low)
Score:
Gryffindor 5
Ravenclaw 5
Slytherin 1
Hufflepuff 2
I was curious about the book, but couldn't place it before the cure.

Four goblets are placed before you. Which would you choose to drink?
Spoiler: show
My answer: -The golden liquid so bright that it hurts the eye, and which makes sunspots dance all around the room. (Gryffindor-High, Slytherin-High, Ravenclaw-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Moderate)
Score:
Gryffindor 10
Ravenclaw 8
Slytherin 6
Hufflepuff 5
I thought gold would be a Slytherin answer because of it being a "treasure" color and Slytherins like Horace Slughorn and Tom Riddle valued treasures. Though it also gives the feeling of a nice warm drink, kind of like what I imagined butterbeer to be.

What are you most excited to learn about at Hogwarts?
Spoiler: show
My answer: -Everything magic (Slytherin-High, Ravenclaw-High, Gryffindor-Moderate-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate-Low)
Score:
Gryffindor 14
Ravenclaw 13
Slytherin 11
Hufflepuff 7
My initial reaction was explore the castle. When I checked the other answers I couldn't really pick one, so I chose this. How do you think this is rated though?

You and two friends need to cross a bridge guarded by a river troll who insists on fighting one of you before he will let you all pass. Do you:
Spoiler: show
My answer: -Volunteer to fight? (Gryffindor-High, Hufflepuff-High, Slytherin-Low, Ravenclaw-Low)
Score:
Gryffindor 19
Ravenclaw 14
Slytherin 12
Hufflepuff 12

Dawn or dusk?
Spoiler: show
My answer: -Dawn (Hufflepuff-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Ravenclaw-Moderate, Slytherin-Moderate-Low)
Score:
Gryffindor 22
Ravenclaw 17
Hufflepuff 17
Slytherin 14

Left or right?
Spoiler: show
My answer: Left (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-Moderate, Gryffindor-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Low)
Score:
Gryffindor 25
Ravenclaw 22
Hufflepuff 18
Slytherin 17
What are your thoughts on this question though? They say left is associated with the "dark side", but there must be a lot of other theories out there.

So according to this your theory does work!

My friend and I have been collecting data from Pottermore sorting that I thought might be able to help you expand your theory. Here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ah5Z8a6rXFL8dGQtbW85ZGlSc1VaV3FldmdTWG1sQmc&hl=en_US#gid=0 is a spreadsheet with which house the person got and the answers they gave to the questions, with hatstalls down the bottom and someone was kind enough to summarise this data in a spreadsheet that can be found here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Apf8-svZawyNdHBGREFoOFU4ajh4Sk1ZdHFraVU3MFE#gid=0

I think the second link would probably be more useful for comparing with your theory but either way I hope you find them helpful (:

I couldn't help but test it out as well. >.<
I became a Ravenclaw.

What kind of instrument most pleases your ear?
-Violin (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate, Gryffindor-Low)
-Trumpet (Gryffindor-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate-High, Slytherin-Low, Ravenclaw-Low)
-Piano (Hufflepuff-High, Slytherin-Moderate-High, Ravenclaw-Moderate-High, Gryffindor-Low)
-Drum (Gryffindor-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate, Slytherin-Moderate, Ravenclaw-Low)

If you could have any power, which would you choose?
-Read Minds (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Moderate)
-Invisibility (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-Moderate-Low, Gryffindor-Moderate-Low, Hufflepuff-Low)
-Be able to talk to animals (Hufflepuff-High, Ravenclaw-Moderate-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Slytherin-Low)
-Be able to change the past (Ravenclaw-High, Gryffindor-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate, Slytherin-Moderate)
-Be able to change your appearance (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Low)
-Have superhuman strength (Hufflepuff-High, Gryffindor-High, Slytherin-Moderate-High, Ravenclaw-Moderate-Low)

I debated on this for a while, can't remember which one I chose for certain.
Moon or stars?
-Moon (Hufflepuff-High, Ravenclaw-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Slytherin-Low)
-Stars (Slytherin-High, Gryffindor-High, Ravenclaw-Moderate-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate)

Left or right?
-Left (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-Moderate, Gryffindor-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Low)
-Right (Hufflepuff-High, Gryffindor-High, Slytherin-Moderate, Ravenclaw-Moderate)

Then I believe I also had some kind of nightmare question, a question about a potion that would raise my certain something (I chose Wisdom) and possibly a question of which virtue I would choose (or was that wands?) and I chose Originality, nonetheless.
According your theory, I would be a total Ravenclaw. Seems like it indeed. : D
One comment though, I think "read minds" would be highest points to Slytherin. I might be biased thinking about Snape and Voldemort's mind skills and considering their house, but I think it makes sense. For some reason I think of Slytherin as mafia (living in mansions with servants and keeping a tight-knight connection with relatives and friends, punishing those who betray), and as a mafia boss one would very much like to read minds to find out who is against them and who can be trusted.

Re: Sorting Hat Q and A Theory (Spoilers)

Postby applesnhoney » June 12th, 2012, 7:39 pm

This is really interesting ^^

Here were my answers:

Spoiler: show
‎1)
How do you want to people to react when they hear you name after you’re dead?
-I don’t care what happens when I’m dead, it’s when I’m alive that matters (Ravenclaw-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate, Gryffindor-Moderate, Slytherin-Low)

2)
Once every century, the Flutterby bush produces flowers that adapt their scent to attract the unwary. If it tried to lure you, it would smell of: (I think there's another variation on this question, too)
-A crackling log fire (Gryffindor-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate, Slytherin-Moderate-Low, Ravenclaw-Low)

3)
What are you most looking forward to learning at Hogwarts?
-Every area of magic I can
-Everything magic (Slytherin-High, Ravenclaw-High, Gryffindor-Moderate-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate-Low)

4)
A Muggle confronts you and says that they are sure you are a witch or wizard. Do you:
-Agree, and walk away, leaving them to wonder whether you are bluffing? (Ravenclaw-High, Gryffindor-Moderate-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate-High, Slytherin-Moderate-Low)

5)
Forest or river?
-River (Slytherin-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Ravenclaw-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Moderate)

6)
Left or right?
-Left (Ravenclaw-High, Slytherin-Moderate, Gryffindor-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Low)

I had saved these answers on a wordpad, but I recognize this one:
Which of the following do you find the most difficult to deal with?
-Hunger (Perhaps all Houses get the same moderate amount of points on this answer)
-Cold (Gryffindor-High, Hufflepuff-High-Moderate, Slytherin-Moderate-Low, Ravenclaw-Moderate-Low)
-Loneliness (Hufflepuff-High, Slytherin-Moderate-High, Gryffindor-Moderate, Ravenclaw-Moderate-Low)
-Boredom (Ravenclaw-High, Gryffindor-Moderate-High, Slytherin-Moderate, Hufflepuff-Moderate-Low)
-Being ignored (Slytherin-High, Gryffindor-Moderate-High, Hufflepuff-Moderate-High, Ravenclaw-Moderate-Low)

I'm pretty sure I chose Being Ignored. I'm confused now though. Did I simply forget to copy that question? How many questions are asked? 6 or 7?
Or was that question also on the wand part?

Based on the Highs, I think the theory says I should be in Ravenclaw?
EDIT!: Tied between Ravenclaw and Slytherin on Highs if I indeed missed a question.

Nice theory. That would also explain why I kept getting into Slytherin when I'm clearly a Ravenclaw. All the answers I chose had high for Slytherins. :( Thankfully, on my third try I got into Ravenclaw. Sorry but I am a Ravenclaw, I love learning and books. I always had.
