WWBookClub - Discussion... Philosopher's Stone

Welcome to the PFF version of the new Wizarding World Book Club.

The first theme has been announced today on Pottermore, so far they haven't said a lot...

Magic and the Muggle world

About the theme

The Dursleys hate magic. They would prefer it not to exist, but they know it does. So they angrily reject and stubbornly ignore any signs of it in the Muggle world – even when forced to take in their wizard nephew, Harry.

How to take part

Make sure you introduce yourself on our Twitter, @wwbookclub, and prepare to join the discussion on this week's theme on Friday 30th June at 4pm BST. Happy reading!

So, the discussion is on Friday on Twitter, hopefully we will all be able to take part and it will be more organised than the introductions have been. Seems the consensus is though that we would like somewhere to discuss things in more detail, so here it is. Use it to discuss whatever you like. :D

Is anyone reading the first book? I'll try and start it.

I will try start to read the book again today as well.

And by the way this will be a good time to get some new members so we will be on Twitter so hopefully people will notice us, so we thought it would be a good idea if you can be on the forum chat doing the discussion this week that will be a fun way to live chat about it and maybe meet some new people :D We will try to do this every week so if you can't make it this week you can try again next week! But don't forget to still post your discussions in here as well.

Reading my very posh black and green hardback edition. :slytherin:

I like the idea of an online chat while the discussion goes on through Twitter. Really can't see the Twitter discussion bring that interesting on it's own.

Reading the first four chapters this week (because I'm trying to read at the pace of the book club, and maybe that is because I truly and a Ravenclaw at heart, haha!). Unfortunately I do not own the 20th anniversary edition of the first book yet (as soon as I can, I will definitely be getting my hands on the Ravenclaw edition and my husband wants to get the Hufflepuff edition because that's the house he is in). This is so much fun and I have needed an excuse to re-read the books because I have not had a lot of time to re-read them since last year!

My edition is green too. :slytherin:

Just a note, sure everyone has the books, but if anyone wants to read them on Kindle or a Kindle app, they are all available for free download right now on a Kindle unlimited subscription. Maybe not worth getting the subscription just for that, but if you have one anyway...

My kids and I are participating in the book club too. We're a homeschooling family of nine and we're all devoted Potterheads. We read the first book along with audio book starting on June 1st. I saw the announcement on Pottermore and it said the club was starting in June. So, we started on June 1st. I'm also following the book club activity on Twitter too. On a side note, I ordered the 20th Anniversary Slytherin Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone earlier this afternoon.

I just downloaded all the books on Kindle, so for the first time am reading them on my phone.

Pottermore have put a few thoughts up, guess these are things people will talk about on Twitter.

Pottermore Ponderings.

Here we meet a perfectly normal family, but what are they afraid of?

We'll learn that scars come in useful, whether they're shaped like a map of the London Underground or a lightning bolt.

Remember these names:
Dedalus Diggle,
Sirius Black,
Mrs Figg...

Know that magic isn't always obvious, whether it reveals itself in a dream, a flurry of impossible letters or a talking boa constrictor.
