Hey everyone!

The HPA is currently coming to the last stages of their annual fundraiser. It is called Equality FTW (for the win) and they use it to fund a whole year of activism projects.

Here's the link or type in equalityftw.org

So the way the fundraiser works is that you donate money and in return you can select a "perk" based on the amount you donated.

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) has contributed a lot of items to the fundraiser, including
- signed "Books turn muggles into wizards" posters
- personally recorded voicemails
- signed copies of the Sorcerer's Stone (with the new artwork)
- narration of a fanfic written by Hank Green

There's also some music available:
- Potter Puppet Pals digital EP
- StarKid live at LeakyCon recording
- Wizard Rock compilation (by various artists)

and of course, much more

I highly recommend you check it out. There's still a week left :D

This just in: Jo Rowling donated a complete set of signed HP books to the fundraiser!
3 of them are rewards for donating $2500
But if you don't have that kind of money (and let's face it, most of us here don't) you can donate $25 to enter a contest to win one of the other 4.

Cool, huh? :D

That is so tempting, but since 79 people have already claimed it, and I would be the 80th, that would give me a 5% chance of winning it. And that is if no more people buy this perk which I doubt. So I'm probably better off choosing another perk.

Have you got any perks Oak?

I've gotten the Maureen Johnson fanfic, John Green's The Price of Dawn, and the Hank Green HP fanfic narrated by Evanna Lynch.

I'm considering entering the JK Rowling signed book contest entry because 1) how many opportunities does one get? and 2) it's for a good cause

It must be said though, having Luna Lovegood say that you are away hunting crumple horned snorkacks and can't come to the phone right now would be pretty amazing

Really wanted a SPEW T-shirt went through the whole process until the payment screen then there was no way for me to pay... :(

No way am I getting a credit card just for this. Seems odd they can't accept either my debit card or Paypal.

I just checked this out in more detail, and wow, cool perks! xD I've saved up $100 in the last 6 months doing extra chores, etc. and I would like to contribute! :)

I'm not going for the chance to win the JKR signed HP book, simply because, as Poppy, says, the chance to win it is very very small. I really want the AL (Apparating Library) but obviously, I can't nearly afford that! xD Then I really like the Potter Puppet Pals Digital EP... :) Just $15 and made by Neil Cicierega himself! :D I'll see what my mother thinks! ;) I'll have to use her credit card obviously, so she could just pay it like that, and then I'd pay her the $15 back in cash. :P

I hadn't thought about the credit card situation, so sorry I didn't mention that.
This is just me theorizing, but I suspect that the reason that paypal isn't accepted is that the way indiegogo (the fundraising website being used) works is that the organization can choose between flexible and fixed funding. Fixed funding means that if the goal is not met, none of the donations are charged to the funders (and consequently none of the perks are awarded). The point is, I suspect that paypal doesn't like this setup, or at least it is complicated to get paypal to accept it. And perhaps a similar situation for debit cards. Even though the HPA chose flexible funding, it's probably a website-wide setup.
Or, at least that's my guess.

Let us know how the EP is when you get it (assuming you mom agrees), Larsie :D

Oh, and one small errata/confusion: There are 3 signed HP books being sold straight (well, they are already claimed, but that's not the point), and it sounds like only one is going into the contest. What happened to the other three, I'm confused about...

I thought it would be cool if we turned this thread into a "PFF makes the world a better place" type of thread. Anyone can suggest something for us to do.

My first idea...
So sure most people here know what The Empire State Building is. If you don't it is one of the largest buildings in the world located in New York. Anyway, it has the capability to change colours so they light it up for different events. In September it is the month of awareness (sure you've seen the pink ribbons around) and there is a dedicated group of people who want to get it to light gold for Children Cancer Awareness. The Empire State building said no. Instead, yesterday they lit it up green for ninja turtles. So apparently a Kids TV Movie/Show is more important than saving the kids who are watching it.

On top of that they are deleting tweets/facebook messages which are asking for them to do it for their kids (and they're posting photos of their sick/passed away kids.) So I thought we could try and help the fight. If you have Facebook, write a message about it with the hashtag #empiregogold . If you have Twitter tweet a tweet with the hashtag #empiregogold . If you have neither, just tell your friends and family about it.

Also just some sad statistics...
"Every 3 minutes a parent hears 'Your child has cancer.' "
"One in five children diagnosed with cancer in the US or Canada will die."
"Two out of three of the children who survive will have long term effects from the treatment which saved their lives including learning disability, hearing loss, heart disease, infertility and even secondary cancers."

EDIT: Sign this petition.
