At what point did you realize that Snape wasn't a villian?

I never suspected him of being a villain.

Many of my favourites have already been posted (I haven't gone through all the posts, but a few pages), but among them are definitely 'You have your mother's eyes' (DH) and 'Turn to page 394'. (PoA).
I also love the moment in PoA in which he is protecting the trio from werewolf Lupin and in GoF after the scene in which Hermione has told Harry and Ron she has a date for the Yule Ball – the way he takes her homework always cracks me up.

Chapter 26, The Order Of The Phoenix :

“That is just as well, Potter,” said Snape coldly, “because you are
neither special nor important, and it is not up to you to find out what
the Dark Lord is saying to his Death Eaters.”
“No — that’s your job, isn’t it?” Harry shot at him.
He had not meant to say it; it had burst out of him in temper. For
a long moment they stared at each other, Harry convinced he had
gone too far. But there was a curious, almost satisfied expression on
Snape’s face when he answered.

“Yes, Potter,” he said, his eyes glinting. “That is my job. Now, if you
are ready, we will start again. . . .”

This moment was so perfect.
Its one of the few moments when he seems to somehow aknowlegde that Harry is not an idiot. Also at that moment, he knew that Harry was not the spoiled brat that his father was since he saw Harry's memories. I had the feeling when I first read that, that their relationship could change. Just a little maybe, but still. Then Harry destroyed all my hopes when he looked in the pensieve and saw Snape being humiliated. Then all Snape's rage against Harry's father exploded again.

I do love that moment when Hermione tells Ron and Harry what for and professionally hands her homework to Snape. His expression was priceless.

That was a good moment between Harry and Snape. Thanks for reminding me of that Avariel.

*Watches amused, as several tumbleweeds roll across the floor. Begins to hum 'Rawhide'*

Okay, let's revive this, shall we?

A lot has happened since the last post, almost a year ago.

First, we lost the talented and amazing Alan Rickman to cancer (moment of silence please)

. . .

. . .

. . .

We have also gained two new Wizarding World projects. A fan film centered around Severus Snape and the new play and script-book The Cursed Child by JKR herself. Both either dealing with or encountering Severus Snape in one way or another.

Which brings me to why I'm here writing this post. Maybe we Dunderheads could discuss both here, but under a more Severus Snape fan-lens then a regular discussion.

First Severus Snape and the Marauders (New Fan Film).
Some questions:
  1. Fanon vs Canon. What are your thoughts about this possible reality of events?
  2. Young Snape. How did you like Mick Ignis's portrayal of Severus Snape? Did he capture your picture of a young, recently graduated Snape? Why or why not?

I'll go first.
My thoughts:
Spoiler: show
I've been following this and waiting for this fan film for what has seemed like ages and I wasn't disappointed. Mostly. I have no complaints about Ingnis's Snape and I think he captured the troubled, tortured, and dark nature of Post-Hogwarts & Pre-Dark Mark Snape pretty well. My main complaint is James. Yes, he is a bully and a prankster but I believe he matured some after his fifth-year or at least during seventh-year when he was Head Boy and saved Snape from Sirius's 'prank'. Here though I still get a strong vibe of 'school-yard-bully' and 'mean-natured-prankster' not reformed bully and master prankster. Subtle but it makes me dislike Lily's refusal to forgive Snape even more if she overlooks Jame's mean-spirited pranks and words without demanding him to reform any. (But that's just my two cents...)

I can see this as a very good fan fiction addressing a few what ifs, and missing scenes. For that, I can see this as a good fanon adaptation. Canon? Probably not so much.

Lastly, JKR's new Harry Potter play and script-book, The Cursed Child.
Some questions:
Spoiler: show
Please try to keep your answers as spoiler-free as possible. #KeepTheSecrets
  1. What are/is your favorite Cursed-Child!Snape moment(s)?
  2. There are several questions that arise due to certain events that unfold in the play, but what Snape-centric question haunts you the most, if any?

My thoughts:
Spoiler: show
Q1: Two words: Dueling Snape. Enough said. :snape:
Q2: Did VWTL Snape really not know what items were Horcruxes or not ever think, "let's kill the blinking snake"?

Remember, be polite and hide all spoilers behind a spoiler cut (i.e. [ spoiler ] Type all your spoilery thoughts and fan-girl/boy moments of glee or utter disappointment and complaints [ / spoiler ] -- just remove the spaces between the brackets ([,]) ) .

So... it's 11:45 on a friday night. Logical thing to do: go to bed. Unfortunately for my sleeping schedule (and for my mental state), I am no 'Claw (no offense to you guys), and so I stayed up making siggies. I made a Slytherin Pride one and then spur-of-the-moment wanted to make a Snape one :snape:. My creativity and wifi connection granted that wish.
