Yarn Crafts

Postby SkyStone » November 7th, 2014, 6:48 pm

Now I'm not much of an artist myself, though I dabble in it, but I do crochet. Have since I was little. :) Here's a couple Ravenclaw color related things. My first two non-pattern projects. Still learning on that.

Hey these look great!

Try a yarn cat hat ;) lol. Mailchimp made some of a wee chimp head as a cat hat, looked so cute and funny! I didn't manage to win one in the giveaway though.

This is so nice. I tried once or twice to do something like that but I lack patience and I get frustrated before I can finish anything lol

Started this with my almost-5-year-old this morning. We just finished the soccer ball pillow, and we are about to start the basketball one now, but I figured I would snap a pic first to show both the before and after materials and results.

How it works:

Spoiler: show
Make your own sports ball pillow!

The Star Player Pillow kit (by Curiosity Kits) comes with:
*4 pieces of felt (2 white for the soccer ball pillow, 2 brown for the basketball pillow), with holes around the edges through which to sew the yarn.
*2 long pieces of yarn (1 white for soccer ball, 1 black for basketball)
*1 plastic needle
*7 stick-on felt pentagons (details for soccer ball)
*6 stick-on felt strips (details for basketball)
*stuffing

Directions:
1) Lay 2 felt pieces (corresponding to whichever pillow you decide to make first) on top of each other and line up the holes around the edges.
2) Tie a triple knot in 1 end of a piece of yarn and tie the other end onto the hole in the needle.
3) Use a whip stitch (feed the threaded needle through the material, then loop around the edge and feed through next hole) to sew the felt together, stopping about 12 holes from where you started.
4) Split the stuffing in half (leaving half for second pillow).
5) Take 1 half of stuffing and break it into clumps.
6) Push the clumps into the opening. Pinch and squeeze pillow as you go to spread stuffing around evenly, and make it the desired "fluffiness."
7) Once you have inserted the desired amount of stuffing, finish sewing the pillow closed.
8) Tie off the yarn.
9) Peel the backing off the stick-on details and stick them on the pillow to decorate your soccer or basketball as desired.

Super easy; my 5 year-old helped with most of it! The end result is cute and useful, if a bit small.

I love to knit and crochet.

This year I'm trying to make blankets. Although I make other things too.
