Problems with the Swelling Solution

Postby dj1 » September 26th, 2012, 6:59 am

I'm having trouble with the Swelling Solution. I've already tried to make it a couple of times, and I'm going out of my mind. I do everything perfectly in the first part of the potion, then, I wait for 45 minutes (I usually use the copper cauldron), and, when I get to the second part of the potion and to the part when you need to heat the cauldron for thirty seconds, I fail. I press the medium heat button, and I don't even get to the lower bar, it says that I have overheated it or something like that. I use Google Chrome (so I know the Adobe Flash Player is not the problem, since it updates automatically), and I don't have Windows 7 (I use Windows XP Professional). Maybe I should use Mozilla, I'm not sure what the problem is. If you could help me, I would really appreciate it. :)

I have the same problem, and I've tried 8 times. I'm persistent.... Everything goes well until the second heating. It tells me I fail before I even get to the right temperature, let alone keep it at the right temperature. I've tried both Chrome and Mozilla, but it makes no difference.

Yeah, well, I've found out that quite a few people are having this problem. I've contacted the support team, as well, so, we'll see. Hopefully, they will do something about it. I will try to make it on another computer as well, but I'm not sure, maybe there's a problem with my account. I really don't want my journey to be over. :(

Yeah, keep trying. I've got one brewing myself. I keep hoping I find something that I do wrong or maybe I'll succeed by a fluke..

Hrm... my first thought is always "check to see if flash is up-to-date" but I see you said it automatically updates so... maybe double check just to be certain? =\

It almost seems like the image isn't keeping up with the mechanics of the game. The temperature seems to have reached the bar before your image shows it has... I have NO idea if screen resolution or anything like that can affect Pottermore's game play.

I'm sorry I can't be of much help... hopefully trying another browser will work! (Or hopefully someone who's more tech savvy comes along with a solution.)

Use another cauldron. The pewter doesn't seem to have this problem. This solution has worked for some people on another forum, hopefully it'll work for you too :)

I'll try another cauldron...

Edit: SUCCESS!!! So, a few helping hints combined together it finally, on the 10th try, worked. So here's how I got it to work. I used the pewter and at the second heating I heated it on high first, and didn't put it on medium until it got the right temperature. Then I kept it at the right temperature.

Oh my God, are you serious? That's probably the only thing I haven't tried so far. Thanks a lot, I'll try that one. Obviously, Snape doesn't want us to brag with our expensive cauldrons. :D

Well, in my case, definitely - a Huffie? Good at potions?

The problem i'm having with it is the stirring, it says stir 4 times counter clockwise, but when I do it tells me i've stirred it incorrectly every time even though I haven't. I'm actually usually really good at potions (well until it changed over to the new potions screen). Mind you atm I can't even go on pottermore cos for 2 days everytime I've tried my comp shuts down cos it overheats, so I need to have the fan replaced I think, anyway i've tried to brew swelling solution at least 12 times and know the method by heart but it always fails me at the stirring part!
