Name: Magdalene Durham
Blood status: Half-blood
Patronus: none yet, would probably be a heron.
Persons who have heron as a totem love to explore various activities and dimensions of life and they are Jack of All Trades and master of none. This ability enables them to follow their own path even if other people sees it as an unsecured life. They do not seem to need a lot of people in your life, nor do they feel pressured to keep up with the material world, or to be traditional in their life roles.
Wand: Sycamore, Unicorn Tail hair core, 10 3/4, surprisingly swishy: The sycamore’s ideal owner is curious, vital and adventurous, and when paired with such an owner, it demonstrates a capacity to learn and adapt that earns it a rightful place among the world’s most highly-prized wand woods.
Appearance: Magdalene (Dalene to friends) is of average height. She have a slightly plump body. She also have fair skin, black hair and dark brown eyes. She was often told that she looked just like her father and that she was a promising beauty.
Personality: Dalene have some serious issues going in her life. She lives with her strict and old fashioned grandmother since her mother left to work in Australia. While her father died in a wizard's duel. She was used to freedom her father gave her and thus is slightly resentful to the people who decides her life. She is naturally observant, vivacious and outspoken, but recently she became withdrawn and pessimistic. She can hold on to grudges for a long time but can easily forgive if she thinks that the person is either truly regretful or that she got even.
History: Dalene's life before her father died in a wizard's duel was both simple and complicated because her father was a disowned pureblood. The cause of the duel was both work-related and personal. Despite her father's "fall of grace" he still manage to be exemplary in his job in the ministry. That didn't stop the other purebloods from insulting her mother whenever they can. Finally the dam broke and her father just have to protect her mother's honor. Sadly he lost and was fatally wounded "accidentally". When he died, her grandmother took her from her mother, claiming that at muggle like her will not be equipped to handle a magical child. Her mother initially fought for her but she gave up when Dalene had an accidental magic after her father's funeral. She locked herself in their bathroom and filled the whole room with water. It scared her mother because she could have drowned and she would not be able to do anything, while a witch or wizard could simply vanish the water. Her mother thought that it was for the best in the end. She didn't say a word when her mother left and never spoke of her again. Her mother sends her an uncut opal on every special occasions, she keeps her favorite in the bottom of her trunk.
Due to these abrupt changes in her life, she keeps on undermining her grandmother's authority. On one occasion she demanded the return of a prized hunting knife her father gave her. It was a family heirloom passed only to firstborn sons of the family. Luckily her boldness impressed her grandmother and instead of castigating her like most of the time, she handed it over to her with several conditions. One of them is that it will stay within the manor when she is at Hogwarts.
Sadly she also developed an eating disorder because her grandmother rarely allow her to leave their estate. She loudly exclaimed it to their house elf all the time and anyone who would bother her about her figure because she's eleven for Merlin's sake, she'll worry about it when...whenever she become worried about it!
Dalene just LOVE Potions, it's precise and it can do just about anything and most of all she can smuggle some ingredients in her sleeves. History of Magic is a breeze, she just imagines that all of it is much more epic than the textbook makes it sound. Because seriously, historians never loved history for the treaties. She's okay in Transfiguration but it just doesn't strike a chord within her, animagus be damned. DADA though, just NO. The physicality and the fighting leaves a bitter taste in her mouth.
Strengths: Potions, History of Magic
Average skills: Transfiguration, Astronomy, Herbology, Charms
Weaknesses: Defense against the Dark Arts, extreme stubbornness
Other skills: Rare spurts of spontaneity, intuitive
She often appears to be a snob because she's very particular who to approach...which is the definition of the snob, but when she avoids a person, it's usually for a good reason. Her father's killer was one of those persons, ever since then she followed her instinct when it comes to strangers. There were some seers in their family tree and it seemed to sharpen her intuition but it comes mostly as, "I don't like that person her/his smile is to eehhh.." or "He/She walks/talks weird..." Just little things like that. Her lack of proper communication with kids her age actually makes her a bit ignorant about intentions of people.
Where old roleplays go!
