James Baker was a young Muggle on vacation in London from his home in Norfolk. Fresh out of school, he fell for the pretty young woman he met at a pub in a northerly borough. Unbeknownst to him, the young woman who he would become involved with was a witch by the name of Cecily Morse. Their brief romance led to marriage and the birth of a son: Thomas Caden Baker. As Thomas grew and his magical nature became apparent, Cecily broke the news of her birthright to her husband. Stunned by the revelation, James Baker walked out on his wife and young son. As hard as Cecily worked to hide her husband's leaving ("He's on vacation", "He's at a meeting", were some of the excuses she'd given her son), young Tom would eventually begin to work things out for himself. Resentful of his father's choice to walk out on the family, Thomas made the decision to go by his mother's maiden name of Morse, rather than his father's surname.

Ever the dutiful Ravenclaw, Thomas earned good grades through his years of schooling, though he curiously avoids using magic when not required. Deeply disappointed that his mother's allergies prevent him from having a pet of his own, Thomas took to Care of Magical Creatures in his third year. It quickly became his favorite class and, schedule permitting, he tries to spend his free time near the animal paddocks when he can.
He was named Prefect in his fifth year, a duty he takes quite seriously.

Strengths:

- Care of Magical Creatures
- Transfiguration
- Muggle Studies

Neutral:

- Defense Against the Dark Arts
- Charms
- History of Magic
- Astronomy

Weaknesses:

- Herbology
- Potions
- Flying

Non-Applicable:

Subjects that Thomas chose not to take.

- Divination
- Arithmancy
- Ancient Runes

Extended (Future) History:

Spoiler: show
James Baker was a young Muggle on vacation in London from his home in Norfolk.

If his father's actions affected him, he would not mention it growing up, though it surely weighed upon some aspect of his subconscious. However, like all British-born students with magical ability, Thomas received his invitation to Hogwarts on his 11th birthday. Resentful of his father's choice to walk out on the family, Thomas made the decision to go by his mother's maiden name of Morse, rather than his father's surname. Enrollment at the school was like an epiphany for the boy, who fit right in amongst his peers after initial trepidation at being surrounded by the "kind" that "chased away" his father. Through hard work and dutiful study, Thomas would graduate with NEWT levels and his professors all expected him to go places within the magical community.

Thomas, on the other hand, had other plans. Whether it was the deep and ingrained mistrust that had haunted him since James Baker's disappearance, or some form of homesickness, the wizard integrated himself back into the Muggle world, becoming a Muggle professor and resuming use of his father's surname. Years would pass and Thomas would grow comfortable in his chosen role. He fell in love with a coworker and, after several years of courtship, the two would wed. Though he enjoyed his job and the routine he fell into, he did not ignore the magical world. What was described in Muggle papers as unusual occurrences, Baker recognized at once that things were not all pleasant in the magical world he had left behind. Like his father before him, however, he had kept his former life a secret from his wife. A sub-par delivery owl that arrived at odd hours, and strange magical-related happenings in the news that could not be explained away, resulted in Baker having to reluctantly explain what he was to his incredulous wife. After twelve years of marriage, she would walk out on him after this revelation, leaving a heart-broken man in her wake. Try as he might to move on, Baker was force to accept who and what he was, and where he was supposed to be.

After so many years of running from his past, he could ignore his heritage no longer. He would return to the fold and obtain his license to teach at Hogwarts, though he will never turn his back on his Muggle heritage
Hogwarts would prove to be a learning experience for the man, long accustomed to doing things the "Muggle way." There would be tragedy and triumph, new friends and old enemies, and the blossoming of a relationship that literally started with a bang. Kayleen Farley, Keeper of the Keys and Grounds, was to work closely with Thomas, as it was part of her duties to tend to the animals cared for by the school. Neither could have forseen just how close they would become, with their first "date" resulting in Baker being injured in a freak accident caused by the groundskeeper's flying horse. A intense relationship would develop, culminated by the pair's engagement and the birth of a son.

The start of his second term at Hogwarts would prove disastrous, however, as the cult Solaris orchestrated a werewolf attack upon the school and its occupants. Most tragically, after valiantly fighting off the beasts to rescue Kayleen, he would find a blood-stained wreckage of a cabin and no trace of his wife. Shattered by this apparent loss, and further upset by his best friend and colleague Larus Pontin's bite by a werewolf, the light at the end of the tunnel seemed much farther away than when he'd started his journey.

Incredibly, almost a month after the attack, Kayleen turned up outside the cabin one chilly evening. Thomas' joy at his wife's return would be short-lived as he would soon find himself unwillingly indebted to the cult member that brought her back to him. Just when it seemed he could breathe again, however, he would once again fall prey to the cult. Only this time it was he who would be kidnapped, tortured, and kept isolated until the cult member he had once saved would repay her debt by smuggling him to freedom. With the ever present threat of the cult hanging over all of them, a looming centaur rebellion and the Ministry's constant interference, and his ever-growing workload that has accompanied his new appointment as Deputy Headmaster, there's never a dull moment at Hogwarts.
