Class: Flying & Hogwarts: Quidditch Pitch

Postby Avis » August 15th, 2013, 8:21 pm

Hogwarts has its own Quidditch pitch where Quidditch teams could practice, hold try-outs and play matches against each other. Each year will see a total of six inter-house matches (each house competing for the Quidditch Cup), along with numerous training sessions by each house team.

The Training Grounds is where Flying classes are taught to first years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The grounds are flat, short-cut grassy areas and are located near the Herbology greenhouses. It is overlooked by the Training Grounds Tower and the Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower.

Instructor: Jackson Emms (Nim)
Spoiler: show
Jackson Emms - Flying Instructor - Gryffindor

Age: Twenties-Thirties
Wand: Holly, 12 1/2”, Dragon Heartstring
Patronus: Unknown
Blood status: Halfblood

Appearance: young, good looking (all of the older girls at Hogwarts seemed to have a crush on him) tall, slight, brown hair, rugged, piercing blue eyes.

Bio: Jackson Emms had an illustrious career at Hogwarts as a seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. He arrived just before the turn of the century and tried out for the house team his second year. He was quickly welcomed on the team and eventually became the captain. During his seventh year, numerous quidditch scouts attended his games, interested in signing him to their team. He eventually signed with Puddlemere United.he was quickly hailed as one of the leagues best seekers. He signed a number of advertisement deals and became quite rich quite quickly. After a bludger hit his head during a game, giving him a severe concussion, he decided to retire. He moved back to Hogwarts and took over the vacant post of quidditch referee and flying instructor. He's seen as one of the better teachers at Hogwarts and is known to have frequent classes in his quarters, for those interested, on strategy and tactics of quidditch and other battles (including Wizard's Chess and actual wars). His only fault, it seemed, was the fact that he was rather short tempered and held grudges. Most people, however, were aware of this and knew to leave his presence whenever he showed signs of growing angry.

Cill arrived at practice right on time. She smiled at her fellow Gryffindors as she sat down to listen to the Captain, Devon Blakemore, outline the tactics needed for the upcoming match. Cill thought privately that Devon could be a bit long winded at times. True, it was a fact that he was so passionate about Quidditch, but so was she, and she didn't see herself ever being able to talk so much in one sitting. At last, the team tactics speech was over, and the team mounted their broomsticks and got into their positions. Cill swung a leg over her Nimbus 2000 racing broom and flew up into the air, towards the goalposts. For a moment, she just enjoyed the rush of flying and the wind blowing thru her long blonde hair. Eventually tho, she got into position and the practice began. The Quaffle came towards Cill; she timed it just right to catch it squarely. Devon favoured her with a smile and Cill returned it. This was going to be a good practice.

The practice went on, the wind was cold and the air was heavy with the scent of rain, but the clouds overhead hadn't yet released their rain. This promised to be a practice without getting drenched.

Captain Blakemore blew on a whistle and the beaters got into position to harass their teammates. "We are going to up the pace a bit here. I expect our opponents to do their best to send bludgers our way." Devon shouted over the wind. "Let's get used to it in advance, shall we? The gloves come off."

And with that, one of the two beaters sent a screeching bludger towards Cill, aiming to bludgeon her from her broom....

The stands were mostly empty, save for the few avid fans who visited every practice of their house. The wet grass of the ground was far below the goal posts. It looked unyielding.

Cill was glad she'd taken the time to pull her hair back into a ponytail; the wind blowing around her was blasting into her face, and she made a mental note to put her hair in a plait for the match. Just in time, she saw the Bludger coming towards her; Cill swung to the left. For a moment, she was hanging upside down from her broom, gripping the firm wood with her legs, then she somehow heaved herself upright again. She'd missed the Bludger tho; it could have really hurt her. "That would be a penalty if it hit me!" she said. "Not that I'm about to let that happen any time soon!"

"Bludgers are nasty buggers," Finn Doyle remarked as he caught the Quaffle and threw it to Cill, "penalty or not."

Sensing another bludger zooming towards them he dived downwards before making a sharp left turn. Laughing as he saw the bludger continue on. Missing the turn completely.

"Goals won't make themselves Cill!" he called as he did a barrel roll past her. A smirk firmly in place. "Those 'Claws don't stand a chance tomorrow."

"Just as long as you make sure that you score plenty!" Cill called back, after catching the Quaffle perfectly. "I'm going to make sure that they don't manage to get any past me!" Cill also hoped that their Seeker would manage to get the Snitch fairly quickly, preferably after they'd scored several goals. A huge point victory would be a bonus.

Some of the onlookers had started to loudly comment on the training. A group of Ravenclaw students was very vocal about the shortcomings of the Gryffindor team.

"Do you call that a serious attempt to score, Doyle? Even my granny could have made that one count!"

And:

"If this is the best Gryffindor can do, I'm not very worried for tomorrow. It is going to be an easy victory for the Claws! Even the Gryffindor beaters play half-heartedly!"

"Yes, I start to wonder if they can even hit another player with that bludger."

Cill gritted her teeth and did her best to ignore the taunts from the Ravenclaws. She knew that they were just trying to put them all off, to make them play worse and Cill was determined that it would not happen to her. She saw the Quaffle flying towards her and, stretching her arms out, caught it neatly. She gave an inwards sigh of relief that she hadn't dropped it in front of the sneering Ravens, and threw it to a nearby team mate.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2ND

Cold morning air hung in patches of thick mist over the Quidditch Field. Playing conditions looked to be less than optimal with the limited sight, but it was still early - perhaps the mist would clear up before the match began. Players from House Gryffindor and House Ravenclaw, dressed in shawls and earmuffs, were just entering the field for friendly warm-ups. The first spectators were already filing in too. Some were avid Quidditch fans, come to cheer on their favourite players even during warm-up. Others were the exact opposite: students fleeing the pre-game buzz of the breakfast hall and coming, ironically, to the Pitch to do some reading or homework before the game started. And lastly, some were simply there to accompany their friends.

Liam made his way to the Quidditch Pitch. Even the mist couldn't destroy his good mood. He was absolutely happy. Happy to watch a Quidditch match and happy to see his friends.

Jacy had followed Emma to the pitch. She was excited as always when there was a Quidditch match but even more excited when her house was playing. It was no secret that she wanted to try out as soon as she was allowed to do.

"Hey, look. There's Liam. Shall we go to him and join him?" Jacy asked Emma.
