This is so sad.

He was an amazing actor, not just as Snape, but he was genius as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Prince of Thieves. One of my favourite acting performances ever.

Singing in Sweeney Todd, not so good mind you.

This was such a shock when I read it! :o I didn't even know he was ill. Such a horrible disease...

Not only was he absolute perfection as Snape, but he was a great actor overall. It's sad to lose him. :( RIP.

Aside from the Harry Potter films, I've seen Rickman in Sweeney Todd (my favorite musical), Alice in Wonderland (As Absolum, he was one of my favorite characters) and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (Marvin was my favorite character). He played some very well rounded characters and was quite entertaining. I have to disagree with ThestralUnicorn though, I thought his performance in Sweeney Todd was very much in character. Judge Turpin didn't come off as the singing type and Rickman's performance showed that.

The news hit me like a brick this morning. First Bowie, now Rickman... both legendary Brits dying of cancer at the age of 69, in the same week.

Have to say, I can't pretend otherwise, you guys all know me too well, I was never the biggest fan of Alan Rickman as Snape, didn't think he was right for the role as described in the books. But there's no denying he was an amazing actor, and will be sadly missed.

I was so sad when I heard about this. Like Cora, I had no idea he was sick. Such a loss.
