Re: Musicals!

I've seen quite a few musicals, mostly of the small theater variety.
Of the small theater variety ones I've seen, almost all were Shakespearean plays that were adapted as period pieces with the addition of a few musical numbers. There are several Shakespearean troupes that perform locally and I typically try to attend two to three productions per year.

Of the musicals I've seen that are traditionally performed as musicals, The Music Man, Wicked, and West Side Story are the ones that immediately come to mind, but I know I'm forgetting a few.

I envy you guys! You get to see a lot of live musicals either produced by your own school or in theater!..here in my place well...broadway musicals are expensive and our local industry rarely produces musicals.....

Anyway I've only watched two live musicals:
1) The Phantom of the Opera (just last night and twas astoundingly awesome! - Courtesy of my uncle for he gave his complimentary tickets to us)
2)The Lion King in Hong Kong Disneyland (simply amazing!frabjous too! - this trip was also free courtesy of my parent's company XD)

And the rest are musicals films (for my parents were fond of music and musicals):
*~Sound of Music - because of its wondrous songs and the fact that am named after one of the Von Trapp children..XD
*~Grease
~West Side Story
*~My Fair Lady
*~Music Man
~Mary Poppins
*~Singing in The Rain
~Into the Woods
~Peter Pan played by Mary Martin
~Mamma Mia
*~Jesus Christ Superstar
*~Fiddler on the Roof
*~Little Prince
*~Across the Universe
~Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
~Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
~Moulin Rouge
~Annie
*~Sister Act 1 and 2
~Robinhood Men in Tights (well sorta of a musical...XD)
*~A Hard Day's Night
*~Yellow Submarine
*~Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band the movie
*~Help!
*~Cats
~HairSpray
~Cliif Richard's Wonderful Life, Summer Holiday and Young One's Movies
~Pete's Dragon
*~and Disney movies and others that I can't remember

* Musicals that are not necessarily my fave but contain wonderful songs that I love to play over and over again...

I did not know that a musical thread existed.
Musicals are great and I really love. But they are very expensive, especially because they are spread all over Germany and it isn't cheap to travel around.
Luckily I had the chance to see some musicals when I was in school. We had a teacher who had good connections to the theatres and git the tickets very cheap. That's why I saw Starlight Express so often.
It isn't my favorite though I just took the chance to see it for little money.

Here is a list of what I saw:

*Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires. But it is completely different to the broadway version) I saw it 4 times.
*Starlight Express - 6 times
*The Lion King
*Hairspray
*The Beauty and the Beast
*Wicked
(*Rebecca)

I saw all of them in german and all of them are great.
I'm going to see "Rebecca" next month and I'm really exited.

If you count films as well, here is my list:

*Grease
*Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
*Sweeney Todd
*Mary Poppins

---

I don't know what comes next to those cities that are close to us.
At the moment "Dirty Dancing" is pretty close but I'm not interested in it. I don't even like the film.

Cats is on tour in Germany at the moment. Maybe I can get a ticket.

I am an enormous fan of musicals! Every few years, my school puts on a production of a musical; I've been in one so far (Little Shop of Horrors) in the pit band (keyboard 2) and it was the most amazing experience of my life.
Some of my favourites are:
-Little Shop of Horrors
-Phantom of the Opera
-West Side Story
-The Sound of Music
-My Fair Lady
-Singin' in the Rain
-And the list goes on and on... including operas but I'm not going to bore you all with that ;)
I'm glad to see some other people liking the same stuff I do!

I just saw 13 (YouTube) the original version with Elizabeth Gillies and Ariana Grande. The songs in it are so funny and really well written, and they had a really good cast. It took an hour to find the full version on youtube. But I found it and loved it.

I simply love musicals :) it's acting, dancing and singing. I used to paticipate in children musicals from the age of 9 on till 14.
But I almost like watching musicals better, than playing in one.

  • Dance of the Vampires*
  • Hairspray
  • Wicked
  • Elisabeth*
  • We will rock you
  • Lion King*

* = my favourites.

And some I haven't seen in the Theater but on DVD
[*]Phantom of the Opera
[*]Rocky Horror Picture Show

Just saw Heathers the Musical online (with Barrett Wilbert Weed, who of which I absolutely love!!) and it was like so much better than the movie. Meant to Be and Our Love is God, are my favourite songs from it. It is such a good show, and it's so powerful. And Ryan McCartan did an amazing job portraying J.D. and his insanity.
